It almost appears that Sydney has two city centers, but the smaller city skyline to the north is actually North Sydney. When I first saw the skyline of North Sydney, it sort of resembled St. Paul, MN. Not exactly though, although some of the architecture and buildings are similar.
Decided to check out area north of Sydney Harbour today. The main road across Sydney Harbour is over the famous Harbour Bridge. However, there is a light rail line that also crosses the harbor. A plethora of ferries also sail frequently across the habor.
After dining at the SkyFeast, I come to the Circular Quay Wharf. This is the main ferry terminal in Sydney, Also here is the Sydney Opera House and there are great views of the Harbour Bridge. Great views of the city center skyline as well, especially at night. There are also a plethora of restaurants and shops here. Almost want to call it Sydney’s living room.
Today, I visit the Sydney Tower at over 300 meters to the top. At the top of the Sydney Tower is the SkyFeast Buffet revolving restaurant. The SkyFeast rotates about once each hour offering stunning views of Sydney and the surrounding areas.
This is my first full day in Sydney, got in last night. So much I wanted to do here, but had no real game plan. Just thought I’d play it by ear. Ended up taking the ferry over to Watson’s Bay. Plenty to see here from lighthouses to breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
Still dark when I arrive in Rovaniemi, Lapland in northern Finland. Here, the Arctic Circle runs through the city. Being so far north, the area does not get much daylight during the winter. However, it does not stay totally dark during a winter day. There is usually about 16 to 18 hours of night and 6 to 8 hours of twilight around the winter solstice.
