Chicago to Washington, DC on Amtrak’s Capital Limited

The only travel issue I had during this trip is I was originally booked on the Cardinal, one of Amtrak’s most scenic routes. However, the day before the departure, this train was cancelled. This was due to bad weather in West Virginia and not COVID. I was promptly re-booked on the Capital Limited. Biggest drawbacks here was that there was assigned seating, whereas The Cardinal is open seating (you choose your seat) and worst of all, no WIFI!!. Left Union Station early evening and traveled through the night through Toledo, OH and Cleveland, OH.

Chicago Union Station

All good things must come to an end, including my stay in Chicago. After checking out of the hotel, I walk a few blocks west to Union Station. Built in 1925, the atrium contains huge marble pillars and walls. Also a vintage steam locomotive is inside the lobby as well.

Frigid Day in The Inner Loop

First Full day in Downtown Chicago. Very cold today with a wind chill, so I stayed only a few blocks from the hotel. Found a lot here to photograph, despite the difficulty pushing the shutter button in the wind chill. Definitely have to return to explore more of the downtown.
